Artist Statements with a lot of jargon!

I found this fun website that generates an "Instant Artist Statement: Arty Bollocks Generator" I thought it was rather amusing because I have seemingly read some version of this statement countless times before... oh art jargon! here was what i got:
"My work explores the relationship between gender politics and emotional memories. With influences as diverse as Wittgenstein and Roy Lichtenstein, new combinations are created from both simple and complex meanings.
Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the theoretical limits of the human condition. What starts out as vision soon becomes corroded into a cacophony of temptation, leaving only a sense of chaos and the prospect of a new synthesis.
As temporal forms become frozen through emergent and personal practice, the viewer is left with a glimpse of the limits of our world."

For Emerging Photographers

"I would challenge the younger generation to make work with
some meaning, work that is hyper authentic, raw and imaginative. Use the camera as a way to wander through whatever world you feel drawn to and do it with integrity, conviction and total disregard for money. Make it
PURE and the other things will happen"

I really enjoyed this quote from aphotoeditor.com

A.S.S. @ Tyler!! ANNUAL STUDENT SHOW

This year's Annual Student Show just came down.  It was running from March 16th-26th.  The show was displayed throughout Tyler highlighting the work of undergraduate students from the various departments.  Photography was in the basement and for those of you who missed it here are some highlights.... starting from the right   Luke Cloran had two images up that he has been working on in the studio this semester, experimenting with the use of models and with various concepts to make the images that have been stuck in his head http://lukecloranjr.blogspot.com/ Jess Stewart included an hauntingly eerie self portrait.  Annie showed two of her fabricated landscapes from her recent BFA show Unattainable Places http://adriannezimmerman.wordpress.com, Keristin Gaber's Curtain #1 comes from her series "Within" cargocollective.com/keristingaber.  Katie Ames had two of her Cindy Sherman inspired self portraits that will be the theme of her show that opens April 22nd.  Natalie Piserchio also had two photographs that are part of her upcoming BFA show Emergence. http://nataliepiserchio.blogspot.com/ Rachel Kotkoskie's image of a couple in bed separated by a dog was one of the pieces that was purchased http://rachellynnk.com/

The Grad Show which was a continuation of the Student Show was displayed inside the department.
Amy Harbilis showed a new work that focuses on a formal evaluation of color and space within a landscape  https://amymaria.posterous.com/
Ben Chetta's photograph is Untitled from the series Vetricallity is based on the corruptibility of photographic technologies, the images result in chance occurrences from digital cameras malfunctioning

Could art CHANGE the world? JR

TAKE THE TIME OUT OF YOU'RE BUSY LIFE AND JUST WATCH THIS!!!!!
I recently found out about the work of JR a former graffiti artist out of paris, who is now taking black and white portraits in an extremely large scale and posting them on the streets to make art more accessible. He has won the 2011 TED prize of $100,000 to MAKE A WISH BIG ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE WORLD and his wish was..."I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we'll turn the world...INSIDE OUT."
"Create a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone will be challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building or a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and viewable virtually."
His projects include "Portrait of a Generation" b&w portraits of suburban thugs from Paris that were display in the bourgeois districts of the city. "Face 2 Face" that put large scale portraits of Israelis and Palestinians side by side in both cities to see if they could tell who was who. and my personal favorite “Women Are Heroes, a project underlining the dignity of women who are the target of conflict" Just whatever you do watch this video, he is amazing, this project is spectacular and I do believe with all my heart that ART truly can change the world. DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS http://www.insideoutproject.net/

Senior Photography Thesis: The Catharsis of Disease

So as some of you may know my Senior Photography Thesis will be the two year documentation of one woman... my mother, going through breast cancer. The beginning phase of my project, the first year was taking black and white photos that included prosthesis and wig fittings, her mastectomy, hospital stays, post surgical visits, healing, chemotherapy, losing her hair and radiation.  At the end of radiation on September 16, 2010 I began taking daily pictures of her and will continue to do so until this September 16.  In the year’s time it shows her hair growing back, radiation burns healing, daily emotions and overall emphasizes the painstaking journey back to “normalcy”.  This two-year all encompassing project will be complete by October, right in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I hope to be able to share this with others who have been affected by the disease and am looking for outlets in which to do this in addition to my Tyler show... if anyone should know of anything

Study Abroad Re-Entry Conference

In the Fall 2009 Semester I was lucky enough to study abroad in ROME ITALY which is where my heart remains!  In my time there I shot well over 10,000 images throughout my travels in Europe.  When I got back one of these images entitled Just the Way You Look won first place in Artistic Vision for Temple's Study Abroad Conference.  They have since entered me into a larger Conference which is this Friday.  The Delaware Valley Study Abroad Re-Entry Conference will be held at Drexel University's Intercultural Center hosted by Arcadia, Drexel, Rosemont College, Temple, University of Pennsylvania, and Villanova Friday January 28, 2011.  These are my entries: Wish me Luck!! :)
